The influence of surface stoichiometry on the atomic structure of the SrTiO$_3$(001) surface was examined with scanning tunneling microscopy, low-energy electron diffraction, low-energy He$^+$ ion scattering (LEIS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).
