The focus of the chapter is on results obtained from the physical analysis of the solar photosphere. Data obtained from meteorites, solar wind and corona measurements, as well as helioseismology, and solar neutrinos are briefly reviewed. The elemental and isotopic composition of the solar system is derived by combining the solar and meteoritic data. The cosmochemical and astronomical abundance scales are described.
