We validate this decomposition causally: zeroing the MP-identified outliers (signal) in Mistral-7B drives HellaSwag, MMLU, and PIQA close to random-chance performance, whereas zeroing a count-matched subset of bulk singular values causes smaller but non-negligible degradation.
