Self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) offers a compelling possibility, in which dark matter particles can scatter off each other. Stellar bars are a ubiquitous feature of disk galaxies across cosmic time. Bars are dynamically coupled to their host galaxy's dark matter halo, and therefore their properties provide a powerful probe of the nature and distribution of dark matter.
