The Kramers--Wannier duality maps these surfaces into worldsheets of confining strings in the Wegner's ${\\mathbb Z}_2$ gauge theory. We study the excitation spectrum of long Ising strings by simulating the ${\\mathbb Z}_2$ gauge theory on a lattice.
