We carefully derive explicit expressions for the current operator, the dipole transition matrix elements, and the optical absorption for electrons with a cosine dispersion relation of band width $W$ and dimerization parameter $\\delta$. New correction (``$\\eta$''-)terms to the current operator are identified.
