First, we prove a \"weak functoriality\" result for Cohen factorizations: certain morphisms of local ring homomorphisms induce morphisms of Cohen factorizations. Second, we use Cohen factorizations to study the properties of local ring homomorphisms (Gorenstein, Cohen-Macaulay, etc.) in certain commutative diagrams.
