In particular, we obtain a Stein characterization of the symmetric matrix normal distribution involving the extended generator of the symmetric matrix Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, present a semigroup representation of the solution of the corresponding Stein equation, and establish regularity estimates for the solution.
