Very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) has now begun to resolve polarized emission on event-horizon scales. We distinguish polarimetric signatures of spin arising primarily from photon propagation in the Kerr spacetime from those mediated by horizon-threading electromagnetic fields and magnetized plasma dynamics.
