In some circumstances time evolution in string theory can be approximately identified with Ricci-flow parametric evolution of spatial sections. In four dimensions, homogeneous, self-dual, gravitational instantons of general relativity evolve in time exactly as geometric flows of homogeneous three-manifolds.
