Using analytic arguments and numerical simulations, we demonstrate that models with a single-phase interstellar medium (ISM) and metallicity-independent yields cannot reproduce observations showing [Eu/alpha] > 0 or [Eu/Fe] > [alpha/Fe] for alpha-elements such as Mg and Si.
