The photon pairs are generated via spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) in a submicron-scale thin film of the inversion-broken rhombohedral polytype of the transition metal dichalcogenide molybdenum disulfide (3R-MoS$_2$), located between two fiber connectors.
