A thin slot in an infinite ground plane is the complement to a dipole in free space. This was described by H.G. Booker [2] who extended Babinet's principle from optics to show that the slot will have the same radiation pattern as a dipole such that the E and H fields are swapped. As a result, the polarization is rotated, so that radiation from vertical slot is polarized horizontally.
