The latter setting admits a much greater variety of localized modes. Symmetric, antisymmetric, and asymmetric discrete solitons are found, and a subcritical bifurcation, accounting for the spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) of the symmetric modes and transition to asymmetric ones, is identified.
