The efficiency of photon extraction from the host material is low for many solid-state systems due to their relatively high index of refraction. In this article we experimentally study the emission spectrum of an ensemble of nitrogen-vacancy defects implanted around 8nm below the planar diamond surface and in the vicinity of a planar silver mirror.
