Focusing on the maximum pseudolikelihood estimator, we give checkable conditions for joint consistency and asymptotic ill-conditioning. For the edge-triangle ERGM, pseudolikelihood is ill-conditioned in the ferromagnetic regime with nonnegative field, but consistent in a sufficiently strong antiferromagnetic regime.
