Using first-principles gyrokinetic simulations of edge and scrape-off-layer turbulence in ASDEX Upgrade, we show that turbulence-driven poloidal flows generate this deeper Er well in the favorable configuration through enhanced nonlinear turbulence-mean flow energy transfer.
