We begin with a scheme to systematically derive the irreducible representations (IRs) characterizing the Bloch functions. Starting from a tight-binding (TB) approach, we decompose the TB basis functions into localized symmetry-adapted atomic orbitals and crystal-periodic symmetry-adapted plane waves.
