Smith (1)","submitted_at":"2002-10-22T16:34:24Z","abstract_excerpt":"A Chandra X-ray observation has detected an unresolved source at the center of the supernova remnant Kes 79. The best single-model fit to the source spectrum is a blackbody with an X-ray luminosity Lx (0.3-8.0 keV) = 7 x 10^{33} ergs s^{-1}. There is no evidence for a surrounding pulsar wind nebula. There are no cataloged counterparts at other wavelengths, but the absorption is high.
