The defect Hilbert spaces are closely related to the category of $*$-representations of the $C^*$-algebra of the compactly supported sections of the Fell line bundle over the conjugation action groupoid $G//_{\\mathrm Ad} G$, and the structure of this category and the groupoid action on the objects of this category is interpreted quantum mechanically.
