Here, we combine in situ gas-cell and multimodal electron microscopy to determine how temperature, gas pressure, and chemistry select among distinct restructuring pathways in AuRu nanocrystal catalysts. Initially, the AuRu nanocrystals form polycrystalline face-centered cubic (FCC) alloys with Au/Ru intermixing.
