Its focal plane is equipped with back-illuminated DEPFET (Depleted p-channel field-effect transistor) sensors that offer high radiation tolerance and provide near Fano-limited energy resolution. Achieving this performance requires an exceptionally low readout noise, with about 3 electrons ENC expected at beginning of life.
