Unlike other continuum models (Cauchy, Cosserat, second gradient, classical Mindlin-Eringen micromorphic etc.), the relaxed micromorphic model is endowed to capture the main microscopic and macroscopic characteristics of the targeted metamaterial, namely, stiffness, anisotropy, dispersion and band-gaps.
