This model reproduces basic features, such as a sudden electric polarization switch-off when a magnetic field is applied and the ubiquitous dimerized distortion patterns and magnetic $\\uparrow \\uparrow \\downarrow \\downarrow$ ordering, observed in several multiferroic materials of different composition.
