At inclinations higher than the grazing angle of the funnel, the central source is obscured. Accordingly, the observed emission is dominated by scattered and reflected radiation, which can therefore be strongly polarized. The detection of strong X-ray polarization in the Galactic X-ray binary Cygnus X-3 provides the first direct probe of this geometry.
