Imposing alignment between the principal directions of the electromagnetic field and the metric tetrad reduces the Maxwell-Faraday sector to a pair of potentials constrained by a single integrability condition, the key equation. Within the polynomial aligned ansatz considered here, the key equation selects two admissible families, corresponding to electromagnetic potentials that are cubic and quartic polynomials.
