It has played a crucial role in our understanding that the particle content of a field theory is observer dependent. This effect is important in its own right and as a way to understand the phenomenon of particle emission from black holes and cosmological horizons. Here, we review the Unruh effect with particular emphasis to its applications. We also comment on a number of recent developments and discuss some controversies. Effort is also made to clarify what seems to be common misconceptions.","external_url":"https://arxiv.org/abs/0710.5373","cited_by_count":null,"metadata_source":"pith","metadata_fetched_at":"2026-06-29T14:13:30.958204+00:00","pith_arxiv_id":"0710.5373","created_at":"2026-05-10T07:57:15.354599+00:00","updated_at":"2026-06-29T14:13:30.958204+00:00","title_quality_ok":false,"display_title":"The Unruh effect and its applications","render_title":"The Unruh effect and its applications"},"hub":{"state":{"work_id":"7d38e705-24ab-4497-a82a-5260f51a5f73","tier":"hub","tier_reason":"10+ Pith inbound or 1,000+ external citations","pith_inbound_count":15,"external_cited_by_count":null,"distinct_field_count":6,"first_pith_cited_at":"2024-05-09T14:24:46+00:00","last_pith_cited_at":"2026-05-31T07:31:33+00:00","author_build_status":"not_needed","summary_status":"needed","contexts_status":"needed","graph_status":"needed","ask_index_status":"not_needed","reader_status":"not_needed","recognition_status":"not_needed","updated_at":"2026-06-29T16:09:04.289549+00:00","tier_text":"hub"},"tier":"hub","role_counts":[{"context_role":"background","n":5}],"polarity_counts":[{"context_polarity":"background","n":5}],"runs":{},"summary":{},"graph":{},"authors":[]}}
