We demonstrate that this is not necessarily true in the presence of a non-factorizable background geometry. The specific example we study is a single 3-brane embedded in five dimensions. We show that even without a gap in the Kaluza-Klein spectrum, four-dimensional Newtonian and general relativistic gravity is reproduced to more than adequate precision.","external_url":"https://arxiv.org/abs/hep-th/9906064","cited_by_count":null,"metadata_source":"pith","metadata_fetched_at":"2026-05-25T03:30:16.996353+00:00","pith_arxiv_id":"hep-th/9906064","created_at":"2026-05-10T10:14:09.885232+00:00","updated_at":"2026-05-25T03:30:16.996353+00:00","title_quality_ok":false,"display_title":"An Alternative to compactification","render_title":"An Alternative to compactification"},"hub":{"state":{"work_id":"87c5cdcf-ca56-41f0-908f-99ac7a836cea","tier":"hub","tier_reason":"10+ Pith inbound or 1,000+ external citations","pith_inbound_count":35,"external_cited_by_count":null,"distinct_field_count":6,"first_pith_cited_at":"2015-01-28T21:00:11+00:00","last_pith_cited_at":"2026-05-22T17:59:20+00:00","author_build_status":"not_needed","summary_status":"needed","contexts_status":"needed","graph_status":"needed","ask_index_status":"not_needed","reader_status":"not_needed","recognition_status":"not_needed","updated_at":"2026-06-01T04:33:06.218641+00:00","tier_text":"hub"},"tier":"hub","role_counts":[{"context_role":"background","n":16}],"polarity_counts":[{"context_polarity":"background","n":15},{"context_polarity":"unclear","n":1}],"runs":{},"summary":{},"graph":{},"authors":[]}}
