This article describes the various experimental bounds on the variation of the fundamental constants of nature. After a discussion on the role of fundamental constants, of their definition and link with metrology, the various constraints on the variation of the fine structure constant, the gravitational, weak and strong interactions couplings and the electron to proton mass ratio are reviewed. This review aims (1) to provide the basics of each measurement, (2) to show as clearly as possible why it constrains a given constant and (3) to point out the underlying hypotheses. Such an investigation is of importance to compare the different results, particularly in view of understanding the recent claims of the detections of a variation of the fine structure constant and of the electron to proton mass ratio in quasar absorption spectra. The theoretical models leading to the prediction of such variation are also reviewed, including Kaluza-Klein theories, string theories and other alternative theories and cosmological implications of these results are discussed. The links with the tests of general relativity are emphasized.

  1. Dark Energy and Neutrino Flavor from the Weak Axion

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The dark-energy scale is predicted from neutrino masses and PMNS mixing: the weak-axion Coleman-Weinberg potential lands at 1-4 meV for current neutrino data.

  2. Investigating a Possible Variation of the Gravitational Constant Through Gas Mass Fraction Measurements and Type Ia Supernovae Observations

    astro-ph.CO 2026-07 conditional novelty 5.5 of 10

Non-parametric reconstruction of G(z) from cluster f_gas and Pantheon+ under L∝G^1.46 finds constant G consistent, with only mild low-z departures allowed.

  3. Fine-tunings in radiative $\alpha$-particle capture on $^{12}$C at astrophysical energies

    nucl-th 2026-01 unverdicted novelty 4.0 of 10

Astrophysical S-factor data constrain variations in the electromagnetic fine-structure constant to |δ α/α| ≤ 0.0002 in radiative alpha capture on carbon-12.

  4. The Hubble tension: A decade review

    astro-ph.CO 2026-06 conditional novelty 3.0 of 10

Pure early or late fixes to the Hubble tension are tightly constrained; remaining options are combined early-late interacting dark energy or new physics at the local-to-homogeneous transition.

  5. An interstellar mission to the closest black hole?

    gr-qc 2025-09 conditional novelty 3.0 of 10

If a black hole lies within about 20 light-years, a laser-propelled nanocraft could reach it in roughly a century and test Einstein's theory and event horizons.

  6. The Hubble tension: A decade review

    astro-ph.CO 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 2.0 of 10

A review summarizing the Hubble tension as a persistent crisis and discussing resolutions via interacting dark energy models that combine early-time and late-time modifications.
