We generalize the (p,q) 5-brane web construction of five-dimensional field theories by introducing (p,q) 7-branes, and apply this construction to theories with a one-dimensional Coulomb branch. The 7-branes render the exceptional global symmetry of these theories manifest. Additionally, 7-branes allow the construction of all E_n theories up to n=8, previously not possible in 5-brane configurations. The exceptional global symmetry in the field theory is a subalgebra of an affine symmetry on the 7-branes, which is necessary for the existence of the system. We explicitly determine the quantum numbers of the BPS states of all E_n theories using two simple geometrical constraints.

  1. Exact results for 5d SCFTs of long quiver type

    hep-th 2019-09 conditional novelty 8.0 of 10

Analytic saddle-point solutions of the squashed S5 localization matrix model yield exact large-N free energies for long-quiver 5d SCFTs, matching holographic predictions.

  2. Towards Generalized Dimers for GTPs: $\mathcal{N}=2$ Fractional Branes at Infinite Coupling

    hep-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

N=2 strip condensation — collapsing parallel zig-zag strips in brane tilings — reproduces the expected number of gauge groups and yields GTP quivers related to toric ones by relevant deformations.

  3. Symmetry extension by condensation defects II: general dimensions and higher-groups

    hep-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Gauging A×B under a cubic mixed anomaly extends C (n=1) or folds C into a higher-group (n≥2), with the new factor generated by condensation defects and detected via triple-linking.

  4. 5d Higgs Branches: Stratifications from Geometry

    hep-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Dynamical complex structure deformations of non-compact Calabi-Yau threefolds with non-isolated singularities reproduce the full Higgs branch stratification of 5d SCFTs, matching magnetic quiver predictions.

  5. 5d Trinions and Tetraons

    hep-th 2026-05 accept novelty 7.0 of 10

The authors construct 5d SCFT trinions and tetraons with D flavor symmetry via M-theory, producing non-linear quivers with instanton symmetry enhancement and ruling out E-type cases.

  6. Remarks on the Higgs Branch of 5d Conformal Matter

    hep-th 2025-02 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The Higgs branches of 5d conformal matter atoms and molecules are computed via magnetic quivers and class-S circle reductions, with matching dimensions across the two methods.

  7. Brane Webs and Magnetic Quivers for SQCD

    hep-th 2019-09 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The reduced Higgs branch of SU(Nc) SQCD with Nf flavors is a union of mesonic and baryonic cones, each the Coulomb branch of a magnetic quiver read from a five-brane web.

  8. Higgsing and Twisting of 6d $D_N$ gauge theories

    hep-th 2019-08 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The authors construct 5-brane webs for 6d SO(N) SCFTs on -2 and -3 curves and propose webs for Z2-twisted compactifications using Higgs vevs of KK-momentum charged scalars.
