In two dimensions, fractional instantons and bions have been extensively studied in the ${\\mathbb C}P^{N-1}$ model and the Grassmann sigma model on ${\\mathbb R}^1 \\times S^1$ with the ${\\mathbb Z}_N$ symmetric twisted boundary condition.
