We extend the definition of quadrangulation to higher dimensions, and prove that any graph G which embeds as a quadrangulation in the real projective space P^n has chromatic number n+2 or higher, unless G is bipartite. For n=2 this was proved by Youngs [J. Graph Theory 21 (1996), 219-227]. The family of quadrangulations of projective spaces includes all complete graphs, all Mycielski graphs, and certain graphs homomorphic to Schrijver graphs. As a corollary, we obtain a new proof of the Lovasz-Kneser theorem.","authors_text":"Mat\\v{e}j Stehl\\'ik, Tom\\'a\\v{s} Kaiser","cross_cats":[],"headline":"","license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"math.CO","submitted_at":"2013-10-22T10:51:58Z","title":"Colouring quadrangulations of projective spaces"},"references":{"count":0,"internal_anchors":0,"resolved_work":0,"sample":[],"snapshot_sha256":"258153158e38e3291e3d48162225fcdb2d5a3ed65a07baac614ab91432fd4f57"},"source":{"id":"1310.5875","kind":"arxiv","version":2},"verdict":{"created_at":null,"id":null,"model_set":{},"one_line_summary":"","pipeline_version":null,"pith_extraction_headline":"","strongest_claim":"","weakest_assumption":""}},"verdict_id":null}}],"author_attestations":[],"timestamp_anchors":[],"storage_attestations":[],"citation_signatures":[],"replication_records":[],"corrections":[],"mirror_hints":[],"record_created":{"event_id":"sha256:d070bba2a9ffed972a4d7c54a0c0785029a128931cbe061237d5da48be3e14aa","target":"record","created_at":"2026-05-18T02:16:51Z","signer":{"key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","signer_id":"pith.science","signer_type":"pith_registry"},"payload":{"attestation_state":"computed","canonical_record":{"metadata":{"abstract_canon_sha256":"ad1922aa373eabdec1a79ff040decdcb4bf0fa4582d227be3d04e6bc3164e23a","cross_cats_sorted":[],"license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"math.CO","submitted_at":"2013-10-22T10:51:58Z","title_canon_sha256":"8aad22e623caab426cdffe1e18753d42db9edbb81535c89acd2383832604dd4a"},"schema_version":"1.0","source":{"id":"1310.5875","kind":"arxiv","version":2}},"canonical_sha256":"d63ddebfdf947ead83b2ee52ed4b5cea4a542c7d8c263739e18ea6dedbbdb87b","receipt":{"algorithm":"ed25519","builder_version":"pith-number-builder-2026-05-17-v1","canonical_sha256":"d63ddebfdf947ead83b2ee52ed4b5cea4a542c7d8c263739e18ea6dedbbdb87b","first_computed_at":"2026-05-18T02:16:51.438184Z","key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","kind":"pith_receipt","last_reissued_at":"2026-05-18T02:16:51.438184Z","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","receipt_version":"0.3","signature_b64":"5rYNzudnsBLOzm9wk3itfXzsffydYxEbQhiA7jKsYHNodAaAXB6JLjyfM9yfDfoKSi9Z2H14klSwoChLDKOCCA==","signature_status":"signed_v1","signed_at":"2026-05-18T02:16:51.438820Z","signed_message":"canonical_sha256_bytes"},"source_id":"1310.5875","source_kind":"arxiv","source_version":2}}},"equivocations":[],"invalid_events":[],"applied_event_ids":["sha256:d070bba2a9ffed972a4d7c54a0c0785029a128931cbe061237d5da48be3e14aa","sha256:53e27b16e2faba9073fa4c19a37d9408cd0100de8830522dc1bf6e11c8edcfc0"],"state_sha256":"9c383119780253e3a85dbab18dbc8f3c6c1895966f80f4ca18ca00074dfa6c35"}
