Already well-known are the multiferroics which show properties of ferroelectrics and magnets. But ferroelectricity by itself also entails the bulk photovoltaic effect, a light-matter interaction which generates dc currents. Here we propose a magnetic photogalvanic effect that couples the magnetism to the light-matter interaction. This phenomenon emerges from the $\\mathbf{k}$ to $\\mathbf{-k}$ symmetry-breaking in the band structure and does not require a static polarization. It is distinct from other known bulk photovol","authors_text":"Binghai Yan, Claudia Felser, F. de Juan, Hiroaki Ishizuka, Naoto Nagaosa, Tobias Holder, Yang Zhang","cross_cats":["cond-mat.mtrl-sci"],"headline":"","license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"cond-mat.mes-hall","submitted_at":"2019-03-14T21:15:17Z","title":"Magnetically Switchable Light-Matter Interaction in the Two-Dimensional Magnet CrI3"},"references":{"count":0,"internal_anchors":0,"resolved_work":0,"sample":[],"snapshot_sha256":"258153158e38e3291e3d48162225fcdb2d5a3ed65a07baac614ab91432fd4f57"},"source":{"id":"1903.06264","kind":"arxiv","version":2},"verdict":{"created_at":null,"id":null,"model_set":{},"one_line_summary":"","pipeline_version":null,"pith_extraction_headline":"","strongest_claim":"","weakest_assumption":""}},"verdict_id":null}}],"author_attestations":[],"timestamp_anchors":[],"storage_attestations":[],"citation_signatures":[],"replication_records":[],"corrections":[],"mirror_hints":[],"record_created":{"event_id":"sha256:32977c5cc957935ddfae9ffe8aa4965146431289fd1bfa6b7446c691f280ed89","target":"record","created_at":"2026-07-04T23:59:06Z","signer":{"key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","signer_id":"pith.science","signer_type":"pith_registry"},"payload":{"attestation_state":"computed","canonical_record":{"metadata":{"abstract_canon_sha256":"e7b98cb71a6d1c3daaededf957425634d87c2af81cf92fa4efad44fb9470fdb5","cross_cats_sorted":["cond-mat.mtrl-sci"],"license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"cond-mat.mes-hall","submitted_at":"2019-03-14T21:15:17Z","title_canon_sha256":"eeca62d8917bb10626687d96ac674aade2ab066f136ca2573123cff41d2fe1ed"},"schema_version":"1.0","source":{"id":"1903.06264","kind":"arxiv","version":2}},"canonical_sha256":"d936798be96d142a1efa2f15f7edd57460b13e637cf5feac46bf570833d39d54","receipt":{"algorithm":"ed25519","builder_version":"pith-number-builder-2026-05-17-v1","canonical_sha256":"d936798be96d142a1efa2f15f7edd57460b13e637cf5feac46bf570833d39d54","first_computed_at":"2026-07-04T23:59:06.409416Z","key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","kind":"pith_receipt","last_reissued_at":"2026-07-04T23:59:06.409416Z","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","receipt_version":"0.3","signature_b64":"E/iDQI4f2azLnBRVvo+xvLFDZ00B9N3GMaFVo6S8G6HPSA6Zdm/R0Gx+3VyHzh1jQ1ycNwjDH+bHbsjYDtxMBw==","signature_status":"signed_v1","signed_at":"2026-07-04T23:59:06.409911Z","signed_message":"canonical_sha256_bytes"},"source_id":"1903.06264","source_kind":"arxiv","source_version":2}}},"equivocations":[],"invalid_events":[],"applied_event_ids":["sha256:32977c5cc957935ddfae9ffe8aa4965146431289fd1bfa6b7446c691f280ed89","sha256:0fda70de64739d06efbc45d2a5c6a7d44752b5dd6040d112a44c94411259b64f"],"state_sha256":"ef6b5220ac931442d650a011c9d64faf9240d0f80ef4fec0bd619847d1332ec2"}
