Analogously to three-dimensional wide-bandgap semiconductors like diamond, h-BN hosts isolated defects exhibiting visible fluorescence, and the ability to position such quantum emitters within a two-dimensional material promises breakthrough advances in quantum sensing, photonics, and other quantum technologies.
