Its behavior is illustrated for overconstrained satisfiability and asymmetric traveling salesman problems. Simulations with randomly generated problem instances show each step of the algorithm shifts amplitude preferentially towards lower cost states, thereby concentrating amplitudes into low-cost states, on average.
