We find that commercial feedthroughs generally have center conductor diameters which are too small, resulting in unnecessarily large fields. We study the problem with analytical calculations and finite element analysis, and present a simple, optimized retrofit for the commercial feedthroughs studied here, without compromising their outgassing properties.
