They are collimated outflows whose origin is associated to an accretion disc and a central object, and can be very powerful non-thermal emitters. Jets form in active galactic nuclei, gamma-ray bursts, microquasars, and young stellar objects. Galactic jets emitting non-thermal emission are typically associated to microquasars, although the jets of massive young stellar objects are also non-thermal sources.
