The universality of vdW attraction is attributed to the dipolar coupling between fluctuating electron charge densities. Here we demonstrate that the long-range interaction between \\textit{spatially confined} vdW dimers becomes repulsive when accounting for the full Coulomb interaction between charge fluctuations.
