Quantum states are represented by a convex body, often in high dimensions. In the case of n-qubits, the dimension is exponentially large in n. The space of states can be visualized, to some extent, by its simple cross sections: Regular simplexes, balls and hyper-octahedra. When the dimension gets large there is a precise sense in which the space of states resembles, almost in every direction, a ball. The ball turns out to be a ball of rather low purity states. We also address some of the corresponding, bu","authors_text":"Joseph Avron, Oded Kenneth","cross_cats":["math-ph","math.MP"],"headline":"","license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"quant-ph","submitted_at":"2019-01-20T15:34:25Z","title":"An elementary introduction to the geometry of quantum states with pictures"},"references":{"count":0,"internal_anchors":0,"resolved_work":0,"sample":[],"snapshot_sha256":"258153158e38e3291e3d48162225fcdb2d5a3ed65a07baac614ab91432fd4f57"},"source":{"id":"1901.06688","kind":"arxiv","version":3},"verdict":{"created_at":null,"id":null,"model_set":{},"one_line_summary":"","pipeline_version":null,"pith_extraction_headline":"","strongest_claim":"","weakest_assumption":""}},"verdict_id":null}}],"author_attestations":[],"timestamp_anchors":[],"storage_attestations":[],"citation_signatures":[],"replication_records":[],"corrections":[],"mirror_hints":[],"record_created":{"event_id":"sha256:a60c8e0d000b0d73a31661237bc74dfbe2409d7b38cc9dda6532d1d5fa5bdb25","target":"record","created_at":"2026-07-04T23:52:34Z","signer":{"key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","signer_id":"pith.science","signer_type":"pith_registry"},"payload":{"attestation_state":"computed","canonical_record":{"metadata":{"abstract_canon_sha256":"3fb38a5569a68735d0368e2b1f9527a246760aaa73a3875622a8e51121545502","cross_cats_sorted":["math-ph","math.MP"],"license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"quant-ph","submitted_at":"2019-01-20T15:34:25Z","title_canon_sha256":"b08d0514daff70e29dcd606e1b4ffa9394e511f6787fbe689af53e831e5ab487"},"schema_version":"1.0","source":{"id":"1901.06688","kind":"arxiv","version":3}},"canonical_sha256":"130907dff61c98843b740745b4537ddb0053172e89f0f0acaf2d320a17d645a7","receipt":{"algorithm":"ed25519","builder_version":"pith-number-builder-2026-05-17-v1","canonical_sha256":"130907dff61c98843b740745b4537ddb0053172e89f0f0acaf2d320a17d645a7","first_computed_at":"2026-07-04T23:52:34.816172Z","key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","kind":"pith_receipt","last_reissued_at":"2026-07-04T23:52:34.816172Z","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","receipt_version":"0.3","signature_b64":"iBPWLq47H5tevb0lTBPaeaJyAXTUgNIuKwV/QFq2WtKytu8/JUGu8m/EPpbjjpsHElUPUtM20pOs5tBdqD+NDA==","signature_status":"signed_v1","signed_at":"2026-07-04T23:52:34.816627Z","signed_message":"canonical_sha256_bytes"},"source_id":"1901.06688","source_kind":"arxiv","source_version":3}}},"equivocations":[],"invalid_events":[],"applied_event_ids":["sha256:a60c8e0d000b0d73a31661237bc74dfbe2409d7b38cc9dda6532d1d5fa5bdb25","sha256:172a6d2c8f7d49980a8f313e0e03b62234769a502976e400ab35b59a08726641"],"state_sha256":"f2801feb2c01ecdf565423fe5965b54b8cf5386d781e076cac6f9430665e32db"}
