In contrast to these bright excitons, dark excitons X$\\rm{_D}$ with anti-parallel electron spin polarization exist, with generally forbidden radiative emission. Because of their associated long lifetimes, these dark excitons are appealing candidates for quantum computing and opto-electronic devices.
