How to effectively utilize supervision signals from both directions? Existing approaches either require two separate models, or a multitask-learned model but with inferior performance. In this paper, we propose REDER (Reversible Duplex Transformer), a parameter-efficient model and apply it to machine translation. Either end of REDER can simultaneously input and output a distinct language. Thus REDER enables reversible machine translation by simply flipping the input and output ends. Experiments verify that REDER achieves the first suc","authors_text":"Hao Zhou, Jiajun Chen, Jingjing Xu, Lei Li, Shujian Huang, Zaixiang Zheng","cross_cats":[],"headline":"","license":"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/","primary_cat":"cs.CL","submitted_at":"2021-05-07T18:21:57Z","title":"Duplex Sequence-to-Sequence Learning for Reversible Machine Translation"},"references":{"count":0,"internal_anchors":0,"resolved_work":0,"sample":[],"snapshot_sha256":"258153158e38e3291e3d48162225fcdb2d5a3ed65a07baac614ab91432fd4f57"},"source":{"id":"2105.03458","kind":"arxiv","version":2},"verdict":{"created_at":null,"id":null,"model_set":{},"one_line_summary":"","pipeline_version":null,"pith_extraction_headline":"","strongest_claim":"","weakest_assumption":""}},"verdict_id":null}}],"author_attestations":[],"timestamp_anchors":[],"storage_attestations":[],"citation_signatures":[],"replication_records":[],"corrections":[],"mirror_hints":[],"record_created":{"event_id":"sha256:dd66ff4c6f70b84a03c72eb91e16c64fa4f8705a64683904cfe38887f0b1f483","target":"record","created_at":"2026-07-05T03:50:48Z","signer":{"key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","signer_id":"pith.science","signer_type":"pith_registry"},"payload":{"attestation_state":"computed","canonical_record":{"metadata":{"abstract_canon_sha256":"bcf3fd06b031bfaf927e1a755e7d404529a723e1caa75b4e874b54b267113d9a","cross_cats_sorted":[],"license":"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/","primary_cat":"cs.CL","submitted_at":"2021-05-07T18:21:57Z","title_canon_sha256":"9e2722a77f068f65eed18f0ea06475b90bed37001e673e3b3700c0b1060009bc"},"schema_version":"1.0","source":{"id":"2105.03458","kind":"arxiv","version":2}},"canonical_sha256":"1f441dd486b08587a971b2fce2d878c10d6cae25df9c505f971d9e171229229c","receipt":{"algorithm":"ed25519","builder_version":"pith-number-builder-2026-05-17-v1","canonical_sha256":"1f441dd486b08587a971b2fce2d878c10d6cae25df9c505f971d9e171229229c","first_computed_at":"2026-07-05T03:50:48.650067Z","key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","kind":"pith_receipt","last_reissued_at":"2026-07-05T03:50:48.650067Z","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","receipt_version":"0.3","signature_b64":"T3KL8fc5nzC/Y2RRpidsXqcS46qtwGYmErCsDKmydGo5diSVZsT1ybh+AE++xyBNjlPbs3Nw43xADPJzRR5TBw==","signature_status":"signed_v1","signed_at":"2026-07-05T03:50:48.650512Z","signed_message":"canonical_sha256_bytes"},"source_id":"2105.03458","source_kind":"arxiv","source_version":2}}},"equivocations":[],"invalid_events":[],"applied_event_ids":["sha256:dd66ff4c6f70b84a03c72eb91e16c64fa4f8705a64683904cfe38887f0b1f483","sha256:f5186af39a863856d7e079716d0c37a43df093165f813df7bdc85f436eb300a8"],"state_sha256":"d6a09b45140b271570c71caddc34d47f0add7d331ee50e8da74968612b7eefa3"}
