In the 1970s, consistent examples of $\\kappa$-cc posets whose squares are not $\\kappa$-cc were constructed by Laver, Galvin, Roitman and Fleissner. Later, $\\mathsf{ZFC}$ examples were constructed by Todorcevic, Shelah, and others.
