Thus non-perturbative effects, like confinement in QCD, is necessarily contained in these correlation functions. As a consequence, a number of confinement scenarios make predictions for the behavior of these correlation functions. Non-perturbative methods, like lattice calculations, permit to calculate the correlation functions and test these predictions.
