We study the relation between compatible Lie algebras and compatible pre-Lie algebras. We give the bidifferential graded Lie algebra which controls deformations of a compatible pre-Lie algebra. Then, we introduce a cohomology of a compatible pre-Lie algebra with coefficients in itself.
