We characterize when the set of nonnegative polynomials with a given support is a spectrahedral shadow in terms of sums of squares. As an application of this result we prove that the cone of copositive matrices of size $n\\geq5$ is not a spectrahedral shadow, answering a question of Scheiderer. Our arguments are based on the model theoretic observation that any formula defining a spectrahedral shadow must be preserved by every unital $\\mathbb{R}$-linear completely positive map $R\\","authors_text":"Andreas Thom, Manuel Bodirsky, Mario Kummer","cross_cats":["math.LO","math.OA","math.OC"],"headline":"","license":"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","primary_cat":"math.RA","submitted_at":"2022-06-13T16:53:18Z","title":"Spectrahedral Shadows and Completely Positive Maps on Real Closed Fields"},"references":{"count":0,"internal_anchors":0,"resolved_work":0,"sample":[],"snapshot_sha256":"258153158e38e3291e3d48162225fcdb2d5a3ed65a07baac614ab91432fd4f57"},"source":{"id":"2206.06312","kind":"arxiv","version":2},"verdict":{"created_at":null,"id":null,"model_set":{},"one_line_summary":"","pipeline_version":null,"pith_extraction_headline":"","strongest_claim":"","weakest_assumption":""}},"verdict_id":null}}],"author_attestations":[],"timestamp_anchors":[],"storage_attestations":[],"citation_signatures":[],"replication_records":[],"corrections":[],"mirror_hints":[],"record_created":{"event_id":"sha256:2ea61e9afbae95176dea6b28aece18e3b327733dc6f16e6fe928fb159a5c1e22","target":"record","created_at":"2026-07-05T08:45:45Z","signer":{"key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","signer_id":"pith.science","signer_type":"pith_registry"},"payload":{"attestation_state":"computed","canonical_record":{"metadata":{"abstract_canon_sha256":"65a4928c4312dea49014e97a6ff38ec012652abacb86668597dd345435055ab5","cross_cats_sorted":["math.LO","math.OA","math.OC"],"license":"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","primary_cat":"math.RA","submitted_at":"2022-06-13T16:53:18Z","title_canon_sha256":"4f767cbea50a9cb816dac94bd289423fb705e9e4be46ad415d056829db8ba690"},"schema_version":"1.0","source":{"id":"2206.06312","kind":"arxiv","version":2}},"canonical_sha256":"21775502cc72a781b800627d6f5e5abaaed7b38a1cce7ffffbb9e3a8c872a18d","receipt":{"algorithm":"ed25519","builder_version":"pith-number-builder-2026-05-17-v1","canonical_sha256":"21775502cc72a781b800627d6f5e5abaaed7b38a1cce7ffffbb9e3a8c872a18d","first_computed_at":"2026-07-05T08:45:45.015504Z","key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","kind":"pith_receipt","last_reissued_at":"2026-07-05T08:45:45.015504Z","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","receipt_version":"0.3","signature_b64":"8+u8cLPjYlDkrjAqowHLeqbXUUCQmWbUcp0vck1Q1kKjg6zEcFMT7iubZZLedygCayx8ZSv8T+1d2rw6DOg5Cg==","signature_status":"signed_v1","signed_at":"2026-07-05T08:45:45.015905Z","signed_message":"canonical_sha256_bytes"},"source_id":"2206.06312","source_kind":"arxiv","source_version":2}}},"equivocations":[],"invalid_events":[],"applied_event_ids":["sha256:2ea61e9afbae95176dea6b28aece18e3b327733dc6f16e6fe928fb159a5c1e22","sha256:723c9c53422df74a606b9d8e816a75e0698b6ab1616c2521081a8782c9f3b2fc"],"state_sha256":"97428414d8974c846ed5c385d91f1abb07e119fc61d2028567168bb06dbca510"}
