CDFCI solves an unconstrained non-convex optimization problem, which is a reformulation of the full configuration interaction eigenvalue problem, via an adaptive coordinate descent method with a deterministic compression strategy. CDFCI captures and updates appreciative determinants with different frequencies proportional to their importance.
