Using invariant theory, we show that the relationship between structural representations and node embeddings is analogous to that of a distribution and its samples. We prove that all tasks that can be performed by node embeddings can also be performed by structural representations and vice-versa. We also show that the concept of transductive and inductive learning is unrelated to node embeddings ","authors_text":"Balasubramaniam Srinivasan, Bruno Ribeiro","cross_cats":["stat.ML"],"headline":"","license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"cs.LG","submitted_at":"2019-10-01T14:37:22Z","title":"On the Equivalence between Positional Node Embeddings and Structural Graph Representations"},"references":{"count":0,"internal_anchors":0,"resolved_work":0,"sample":[],"snapshot_sha256":"258153158e38e3291e3d48162225fcdb2d5a3ed65a07baac614ab91432fd4f57"},"source":{"id":"1910.00452","kind":"arxiv","version":3},"verdict":{"created_at":null,"id":null,"model_set":{},"one_line_summary":"","pipeline_version":null,"pith_extraction_headline":"","strongest_claim":"","weakest_assumption":""}},"verdict_id":null}}],"author_attestations":[],"timestamp_anchors":[],"storage_attestations":[],"citation_signatures":[],"replication_records":[],"corrections":[],"mirror_hints":[],"record_created":{"event_id":"sha256:f19c9eef42e687049ac7d576b2a48195d23eb5c6f4854dd608cdbc5e9ea1a9f2","target":"record","created_at":"2026-07-05T01:37:04Z","signer":{"key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","signer_id":"pith.science","signer_type":"pith_registry"},"payload":{"attestation_state":"computed","canonical_record":{"metadata":{"abstract_canon_sha256":"fee9c88b0c1536c2582e3985b023151947619e1228bd814ff0e91b6053f1bb2c","cross_cats_sorted":["stat.ML"],"license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"cs.LG","submitted_at":"2019-10-01T14:37:22Z","title_canon_sha256":"592bab94ed248bf020441abafa986bf7f7ef0a44063a942c4597d9049ea377c8"},"schema_version":"1.0","source":{"id":"1910.00452","kind":"arxiv","version":3}},"canonical_sha256":"33e91d204419963b7a228ca039445b6224ce77c5be5f591af45f76c10356a122","receipt":{"algorithm":"ed25519","builder_version":"pith-number-builder-2026-05-17-v1","canonical_sha256":"33e91d204419963b7a228ca039445b6224ce77c5be5f591af45f76c10356a122","first_computed_at":"2026-07-05T01:37:04.135373Z","key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","kind":"pith_receipt","last_reissued_at":"2026-07-05T01:37:04.135373Z","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","receipt_version":"0.3","signature_b64":"IUJ1tdokEZXuxjm+hHlwQgVJ+cRkYkuMZhTfsttPyp5Oxl1bQitulm5w8piqA80DaYtvJdSOJlmeedx/sXRYDA==","signature_status":"signed_v1","signed_at":"2026-07-05T01:37:04.136001Z","signed_message":"canonical_sha256_bytes"},"source_id":"1910.00452","source_kind":"arxiv","source_version":3}}},"equivocations":[],"invalid_events":[],"applied_event_ids":["sha256:f19c9eef42e687049ac7d576b2a48195d23eb5c6f4854dd608cdbc5e9ea1a9f2","sha256:8d29536c0070e25d675940db5e2337e464d94226a3c10e454ffaeadf3c95fd4f"],"state_sha256":"9765594795818e944b7a52e8eb95e7343345e8c9a29d90bc55d0443896b2699b"}
