ULXs may host super-Eddington accreting neutron stars or stellar mass BH, although the exact proportion of the two populations is not yet known. We investigate the properties of the ULX NGC 4559 X7, which shows flux variability up to a factor of 5 on months-to-years and hours-to-days timescales. A flaring activity was also observed during the source highest flux epochs. Flares are unpredictable, with different durations and all flat-topped in flux.
