We provide simple criteria to determine the existence of gapped domain walls, which apply to both Abelian and non-Abelian topological orders. Our criteria also determine which 2+1D topological orders must have gapless edge modes, namely which 1+1D global gravitational anomalies ensure gaplessness. Furthermore, we introduce a new mathematical object, the tunneling matrix $\\mathcal W$, whose entries are the fusion-space dimensions $\\mathcal W_{ia}$, to label different types of gapped domain ","authors_text":"Juven Wang, Tian Lan, Xiao-Gang Wen","cross_cats":["hep-th","math-ph","math.CT","math.MP"],"headline":"","license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"cond-mat.str-el","submitted_at":"2014-08-27T19:59:25Z","title":"Gapped Domain Walls, Gapped Boundaries and Topological Degeneracy"},"references":{"count":0,"internal_anchors":0,"resolved_work":0,"sample":[],"snapshot_sha256":"258153158e38e3291e3d48162225fcdb2d5a3ed65a07baac614ab91432fd4f57"},"source":{"id":"1408.6514","kind":"arxiv","version":2},"verdict":{"created_at":null,"id":null,"model_set":{},"one_line_summary":"","pipeline_version":null,"pith_extraction_headline":"","strongest_claim":"","weakest_assumption":""}},"verdict_id":null}}],"author_attestations":[],"timestamp_anchors":[],"storage_attestations":[],"citation_signatures":[],"replication_records":[],"corrections":[],"mirror_hints":[],"record_created":{"event_id":"sha256:6d3488217d3c2fe843bfb348f8b23e73e42380b75727b5ee9d9d2547e0eee18d","target":"record","created_at":"2026-07-05T00:29:54Z","signer":{"key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","signer_id":"pith.science","signer_type":"pith_registry"},"payload":{"attestation_state":"computed","canonical_record":{"metadata":{"abstract_canon_sha256":"e1b6c82ef3da4b590f46bb1bc8b7272972750fac4c5b7efcce49d6c59e8d2858","cross_cats_sorted":["hep-th","math-ph","math.CT","math.MP"],"license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"cond-mat.str-el","submitted_at":"2014-08-27T19:59:25Z","title_canon_sha256":"eb248a60936009830b60edab4aa4bd41927c9a165bb4fbf65ea23d250de35d07"},"schema_version":"1.0","source":{"id":"1408.6514","kind":"arxiv","version":2}},"canonical_sha256":"366f1f4f857f23aca3395b9267cc87186eefcfdd70e024fc75f2ab2e3d24ab34","receipt":{"algorithm":"ed25519","builder_version":"pith-number-builder-2026-05-17-v1","canonical_sha256":"366f1f4f857f23aca3395b9267cc87186eefcfdd70e024fc75f2ab2e3d24ab34","first_computed_at":"2026-07-05T00:29:54.925419Z","key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","kind":"pith_receipt","last_reissued_at":"2026-07-05T00:29:54.925419Z","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","receipt_version":"0.3","signature_b64":"3s0A4Gni5SIHer9OTDSGlA3ZxeWEVV7OqxjLZ7cUiyFD9xchx5RqHRTRkNhL+kaRDKL6QH3uAzR8uf32sfVpDQ==","signature_status":"signed_v1","signed_at":"2026-07-05T00:29:54.925903Z","signed_message":"canonical_sha256_bytes"},"source_id":"1408.6514","source_kind":"arxiv","source_version":2}}},"equivocations":[],"invalid_events":[],"applied_event_ids":["sha256:6d3488217d3c2fe843bfb348f8b23e73e42380b75727b5ee9d9d2547e0eee18d","sha256:c6640a389d841e710d56fba97df54f7403d4773308f7bafe89405f007ffa44d7"],"state_sha256":"d7ee8cc8c6fe2075d1e345d0b44a6394f505708f31859b827dca98e5fed73dd5"}
