They lead to a Dirac contribution to the gluino mass, much larger than the one loop Majorana mass. The gluino can thus be much heavier than in previous estimates, without introducing corresponding large loop corrections to squark masses. As pointed out by a number of authors, this ameliorates the tension between the predictions of the model, and LHC data.
